Serving Historic Bath and surrounding areas!

Beaufort County in eastern North Carolina is rich in
history and natural beauty. The Pamlico River, as well as many navigable creeks
and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), runs through Beaufort County on its way to
the Pamlico Sound and Outer Banks.
Washington is a charming harbor town
located at the fork of the Tar and Pamlico Rivers, in an area known as the
Inner
Banks. It is the county seat for Beaufort County and in 2006 the estimated
population was 14,830 in the city limits and 26,626 in the zip code.
The town offers the quality of life found in small towns, but has easy access to
the Intracoastal Waterway, major interstate highways, airports and excellent
healthcare facilities. Greenville NC, home of East Carolina University and Brody
School of Medicine, is just thirty minutes away and offers "big city" amenities,
including music, theatre, shopping, restaurants, Division I college athletics
and a top-notch regional medical center.
Washington's historic waterfront downtown has recently been renovated and boasts
a mile and a half riverfront promenade. The charming central business district
has an eclectic mix of restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, and antebellum
homes.
Two waterfront
residential projects have recently broken ground and several mixed-use
restoration projects are planned for historic buildings on Main Street. The
restoration of the Turnage Theaters is expected to be completed by the end
of 2007 and will add another dimension to Washington’s revitalization and
growth.
The small, waterfront towns of Bath and
Belhaven and the inland rural farm areas of Pinetown and Pantego
are located on the northeast side of the Pamlico River in Beaufort County NC.
The Outer Banks are less than two hours east and city conveniences in Washington and
Greenville are only minutes away. The Raleigh-Durham Triangle is about a
two-hour drive away.
The Bath/Belhaven area is fast becoming one of the
most desirable areas for development on the East Coast. Four new waterfront
subdivisions opened for sales in the 2nd half of 2006, bringing approximately
200 new waterfront and water access lots into the market. In Belhaven, a new
development of 48 condominiums and a 54-slip marina is going up on a tract of land on the waterfront that
previously was used by a seafood company. There were also six waterfront
properties in Belhaven suitable for residential development for sale at the
end of 2006.
Bath,
incorporated in 1705, is North Carolina's oldest town. The town's location on a
bluff overlooking the juncture of Bath and Back Creeks, only a mile from the
Pamlico River, seemed ideal as a port and settlement, with easy access to the
river and the Atlantic Ocean 50 miles away at Ocracoke Inlet. In legend it was
the "home" of Blackbeard the Pirate, when he was not threatening commerce on the
waters around Bath and the Pamlico Sound. Today, Bath remains a small, tranquil
village with old town charm and friendly people
Belhaven
is located on the north shore of the Pungo River and its harbor is a port of
call on the Intracoastal Waterway. The Pamlico Sound is eight miles southeast by
water and the Outer Banks of North Carolina are fifteen miles east from there. A
new development of 48 condominiums and a 54-slip marina is being built on a
tract of land on the waterfront that previously was used by a seafood company.
Chocowinity and
Aurora
are towns on the south shore of the Pamlico River. Chocowinity
is home to
Cypress Landing,
one of the premiere golf and boating communities in Beaufort County and a
favorite with the actively-retired.
The mild climate, physical beauty and relaxed lifestyle of the area are
attracting a growing number of people from all over the country and new
waterfront communities are being developed along the creeks and rivers to serve
their needs. If you would like to learn more about the area, please visit the
